Marketing Strategy

To be honest, most people, especially the youth think of knitting as an old school way of making clothing and other products which are done by old people. So I thought of how I can make knitting a fun experience. I looked at the bigger picture and needed to convince people that knitting is part of our lives, the jerseys, beanies and scarfs that we wear are knitted.

I decided to challenge my roommate and a friends to try and knit. They had an advantage because the knew the basic stitch- purl reverse stocking stitch so I only taught them the English style of knitting, which was a challenge to them.
They did however enjoy the experience and they have asked me to teach them more knitting patterns. The marketing and selling of my products will be at the Observatory train station stalls. The day we planning on going to the stalls it rained so it was cancelled. I also contacted my mother in PE to find out if anyone in her circle of friends would be interested in buying one of my products. As a result, I got an order for two iPad sleeves.

BRAINSTORMING FOR FINAL PRODUCT

T-shirt design process

Tye-dye it!!

I first wrapped a string around my t-shirt so that it would create a controlled pattern but it didnt work out the way I wanted to. So i then decided to pour bleach on the kitchen sing and dipped it in randomly. I loved the idea of creating something unique and removing colour to create a beautiful surface-design technique. After the black cotton t-shirt was bleached, it turned to an orange colour, and once the design was printed on it, it became even more beautiful.
After i finished my t-shirt design, i burnt it in the frame then Patrick helped me print on my dyed t-shirt. I then filled in one other colour on my design to make it more appealing.

T-shirt design

I decided to print a face of a young African woman with a headscarf. This image represents the story of woman's struggle for equality, which belongs to the efforts of all those who care about woman's rights. It is a symbol to celebrate these women during their month. My product aims to make these woman feel special and give them a sense of uniqueness. The background of the image will be a motif of one of the kitenge materials I have chosen to use.

My ApPrOaCh!!!

I have been very much concerned about not having something to protect my ipad from any kind of damage, which is why I decided to make ipad/tablet cases. I think it is very easy for anyone to walk in at any shop and buying a product like an ipad sleeve, but there is nothing unique about it.I think a product says alot about its owner, and this is where the Kitenge/ Chitenge comes in, where it defines your true self.
